Busy busy

What's been happening lately? Well I've fitted two roof windows, removed a fake chimney and laid roof decking. I've been busy!

Over the last week I have been working for my Dad on my parents house in Wiltshire.

We started with two roof windows for the garage as the attic space will be developed into a workshop for my Dad. You can see some of the video via the YouTube page www.youtube.com/woodytom83

Here's how we did it in photos...

Measured down and marked out the window position. Cut the roof felt. Unhook and retrieve the first few tiles.

Tiles out and the tile battens are ready to be cut. This helps retrieve the tiles much more easily from inside the attic.

Tiles coming off!

Cutting more slats helps the process of removing the tiles. No struggling here!

Tiles gone and now to remove that centre rafter.

An appropriate sized noggin is fixed at top and bottom to secure the cut rafter and spread the weight above through the rest of the roof.

Window frame fixed to the outside.

The flashings are fitted and then the roof retiled. We cut some tiles to fit snug up to the flashing.

Two completed roof windows!

A great project which now lets a huge amount of light into what will be a useful workshop and storage space.

See the next post for the "Shamney" project.
